Nail Care at Home | Strong Finger Nails | Strengthen finger nails

Finger nail treatment using olive oil and garlic

While most people consider the nails to be rather insignificant, the nails can help quite a bit in diagnosing certain problems being faced by the human body. The cosmetic companies have built up the nails as an entirely aesthetic component of the body which, over time, has led to people forgetting that hiding the color of the nail with a layer of nail polish could be hiding away an important sign in the way your body has, or is about to, start malfunctioning. Severe underlying issues like kidney failure could well be the cause of bad looking nails, however, more often than not; the nails indicate the requirement for an additional supply of nutrients and vitamins. While vertical ridges on the nails are quite common and indicate no serious underlying illness or deficiency, it is important that you are alert to the problems that could start if you notice a set of horizontal lines on the nails. Dramatic changes in the texture of the finger nail can also point toward respiratory or circulatory problems along with an autoimmune disease. Sometimes, the nail may change color and develop ridges when it has been exposed to arsenic. You also mention that your finger nails tend to peel and crack rather often. You might want to consider the likelihood of your nails being too hard and dry.

Most commonly, this is caused as a reaction to some harsh chemicals that the nails may come in contact with throughout the day. Just like in a number of skin conditions, the application of Vitamin E either topically or in the form of a daily capsule can help the fingernail regain some of its previous strength much faster than if the whole process were left to chance. The application of olive oil to the finger nails on a regular basis has also been known to have a substantial effect on improving the overall state of the finger nails. You could also try digging your nails into a few cloves of garlic. While this remedy is not very popular as a result of the foul smell, it is known to have great success. You could also try rubbing your hands, cuticles, and fingers with baby oil and sugar to help strengthen the finger nails. A balanced diet, rich in vitamins, proteins as well as calcium is essential in order to take sufficient care of your nails. If your notice a yellowish color on your nails, you may also want to try soaking them in vinegar for some time.
